Hi! I am Eric Gunther and a long time Floridian with some great advice on an activity you can do while visiting Florida!
One of the rare activities we have in certain areas is Polo. The largest venue to watch is the former International Polo Center Palm Beach in Wellington. It just underwent a name change to the National Polo Center and the venue is amazing. They have a huge grandstand for members of the private club but there is also a non-member side for brunch and front seats for day purchase on the member side. It just depends what you prefer. This venue in in Palm Beach County. Expect a very high end crowd and a lot of people come over from Palm Beach Island as well to socialize with the Wellington locals. With great food and drinks available, as well as a beautiful setting, you'll be sure to have a memorable experience!
There are also are smaller clubs where you can watch a game from the sidelines in your lawn chairs or “trunk it” and watch. This is more down to earth a bit and a good venue is the Grand Champions Polo Club. So grab your friends and family and head on over to the for an afternoon of fun!
So whether you're a polo enthusiast or just looking for something new to do, be sure to check out a game. Polo is not only located in Palm Beach County and there are lots of smaller clubs that allow spectators. Always check with the venues to see what days and times they are having games. They are during the week and Sunday in the winter is traditionally the day for the best games (the finest horses and players literally in the world).
If the equestrian world sounds interesting to you then absolutely check out Wellington International (formerly known as the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center). During season you can watch various styles of riding like hunter, jumper, and dressage.
If you are a bit further north than Palm Beach County and want to watch some equestrian events during season like hunter, jumper, and dressage then certainly check out the World Equestrian Center in Ocala.
